Where to buy tickets for the Colosseum?

I’m planning to visit the Colosseum in Rome next month. Usually I don’t plan ahead….but this time I want to be careful. Should I buy tickets online in advance or at the entrance? I want to avoid waiting in the long lines. And I want to book through a trusted website.

You can buy tickets directly from the official Colosseum website (https://colosseo.it/) or Resellers (such as Tiqets or GetYourGuide). Official is usually the lowest price but resellers are super convenient with mobile tickets. For weekends, book ahead. Prefer a faster entrance? Choose a Skip the line option. Want the iconic floor photos? Go for Arena Access.

I booked through Tiqets last week — super smooth checkout and the voucher spelled out which gate to use. It bundled the Roman Forum & Palatine Hill, so I didn’t have to juggle multiple bookings.

Avoid buying from street vendors near the site. Yes…you got it right…Colosseum tickets are nominative and must match the name on the ticket to the name on a valid photo ID. Book a timed slot online from a trusted website and arrive 15–20 minutes early for security.

If you’re squeezing Rome into two days, I suggest you look for combo tickets or guided tours. Resellers usually offer bundles which can help you reduce planning time and other logistcal hurdles. This comes in handy while visiting with kids and seniors.

I loved the Colosseum tour which included access to both Arena floor and the Underground. It is costly but totally worth it. I heard they sell out fast, so get them soon girl!

Get them online for sure. No point wasting time in long lines. Also tickets with special access like the underground or arena, are already sold out a few weeks in advance. When we went in June last year, standard entry tickets were the only tickets available for same-day purchase at the gates.

Please book before you land in Rome. Many leave it for the last minute and then struggle.

If I remember right, they no longer sell colosseum tickets at the venue. This was because there was a lot of corruption with ticket sales. Get your tickets as soon as you finalize your travel date. Have your ID handy to match with your name on the ticket.
