Vatican and Colosseum Tickets: What They Include and Where to Buy?

Hey everyone, My husband and I will be in Rome for three days and we want to visit both the Vatican and the Colosseum. I have been looking online and there are so many different ticket options and combo passes. Honestly, it is a bit overwhelming.
For those who’ve been recently, is it better to buy official tickets for each site separately, or would you recommend booking one of those combo tours that include both?
Also, any websites you’d recommend for advance booking?

My boyfriend and I did a combo guided tour last month (booked on Tiqets) that covered both the Vatican Museums and Colosseum. At the Vatican we had a guide with us, then we travelled on our own to the Colosseum and explored it at our pace. It saved us so much planning time. The combo included skip-the-line access for both sites.

While I recommend buying tickets from the official sites, I also understand that there is not much difference between the ones you buy on official websites and resellers. So do what’s convenient. Last when I searched I found the Vatican+Colosseum combo only on resellers.

Some Roman Colosseum & Vatican combo passes also include transport between the two attractions. I usually struggle to figure out the public transport…if you are like me…get the combo with transfers. Especially if you are visiting both in one day.

If you’re short on time, look for a small-group combo that splits the visits over two half-days. We did Vatican in the morning and Colosseum in the afternoon. The whole family loved the guides and we felt it was a well-paced experience.

Avoid buying combo tickets from random street sellers. Both Vatican and Colosseum require named tickets that match your ID. Go for online tickets you’ll skip queues and won’t risk invalid ones.

I got the Super Rome Pass or Rome Super Pass – one of the two. Not sure which one. But you can find the details here. It included entry to Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, entry to the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill and also unlimited public transport. Best part was, I didn’t have to remember anything. One QR code handled everything. Totally worth it!

Totally agree with others — the combo ticket made things smoother. I did Colosseum first, Vatican the next morning. If you’re visiting during high season, book both 2–3 weeks in advance.
